The Universal Electronic Payment System (UEPS) offers a variety of options for the secure transfer of local funds from a Sender to a Recipient utilizing smart card technology. Cardholders can remit funds to each other by simply choosing the money transfer functionality at any UEPS compliant POS/ATM.
A key feature of the UEPS is its OFFLINE transaction processing ability. Depending on the urgency of the transfer, the cardholder can perform either an ONLINE or OFFLINE MONEY TRANSFER.
The funds are remitted electronically and securely, using biometric fingerprints as the method of identification.
WALLET2WALLET – OFFLINE
This function enables a UEPS cardholder the convenience of transferring funds between their Primary/Savings/Secondary or Un-secure Transportation wallets on their own card without any connectivity to the back-end Host. The transaction is processed offline in real time.
CARD2CARD – OFFLINE AND ONLINE
This function enables a UEPS cardholder to transfer funds to another UEPS cardholder either online or offline, depending on the urgency of the transaction.
CARD2PERSON – ONLINE
This function is ideal for once-off or sporadic remittances being sent to un-banked persons living in rural environments. The card creates a secure Approval Code that incorporates the value to be transferred, as well as a unique 8-digit alphanumeric PASSWORD set up between the Sender and the Recipient.
CARD2OTHER – OFFLINE
This function enables a UEPS cardholder to transfer funds from the smart card to any traditional bank account of their choice, provided that the beneficiary bank account is linked to the client’s smart card in advance.
CARD2BANK – ONLINE (Interface to Traditional Banking Systems)
This function is optional and depends on whether a bank interface is in place between
the UEPS System and the participating bank to perform credits against the traditional bank accounts (CURRENT and SAVINGS) held by a cardholder at the same bank.
BANK2CARD – ONLINE (Interface to Traditional Banking Systems)
This function is optional and depends on whether a bank interface is in place between
the UEPS System and the participating bank to perform debits against the traditional bank accounts (CURRENT and SAVINGS) held by a cardholder at the same bank.
